The association of B2B agencies (ABBA) has appointed Chris Wilson of The Team to be the new man at its helm and take over as chairman. He takes over from John Stanton of Base One.
Wilson has been working in B2B for 15 years. He begun his career client side at Natwest and Lloyds Abbey Life, spent time with technology marketing agency, Wilson Harvey, which was acquired by Loewy Group and finally ended up as MD of marketing communication at The Team.
Wilson has big plans for ABBA and believes it can achieve a great deal. He says, "[I hope] to make ABBA a go-to destination, both for agencies to improve their business, and agency clients to source the very best in B2B agency talent."
As part of his plan, Wilson is intent on bringing the marketing director community closer to ABBA. He feels they can influence and shape the B2B agency landscape. He says, "ABBA will be a place where directors and agencies come together."
Wilson explains he accepted the chairmanship because he is proud to work in the B2B marketing industry. He notes the changes he has seen over the years, "I've seen real progress in B2B being taken seriously as a discipline for heavyweight marketers." He adds, "Just as importantly, the agency creative has improved from having a fairly dire reputation years ago, to award-winning work that's globally recognised."
Wilson takes over from Stanton in December with Julie Clare from Clear Communications as his vice-chairman. He concludes, "Being chairman of ABBA is an opportunity to continue the great work that the current chairman has done over the last four years, and take it further."
