John Watton of Shipserv was crowned ‘Marketer of the Year' at the B2B Marketing Awards last night, on the back of the dramatic transformation of marketing which he has led at nautical provisions specialist, shipserv.

Watton was awarded the title ahead of significant competition from leading B2B marketers, including Joanna Elliott, head of brand marketing at Sage, who has led the software company's dynamic new approach to its brand communication. Previous winners of this category include John Williams of British Gas Business and Robin White of Ryder.

Joel Harrison, editor of B2B Marketing, comments, "the quality of entries for this category was particularly high this year, and judges had a long debate over who should emerge as the winner. In the end, they opted for John ahead of Joanna, party because of what he had achieved with a smaller organisation and a more limited budget. However, congratulations should go to both of them - they have really raised the bar in terms of how B2B marketers should think and perform."
